[Around Us] How We Avoid the Heat
“Channel PNU” visited Hwangryeongsan, Uam-dong Urban Forest, and Cheonghak Reservoir Observatory on February 8th and March 19th to introduce its night views.
As the hot summer approaches, more and more people visit night walking attractions to cool off the heat of the day and breathe the fresh night air.
Busan, called the city of night view, has as many attractions as its reputation. On February 8th and March 19th, “Channel PNU” visited Hwangryeong Mountain, Uam-dong Urban Forest, and Cheonghak Reservoir Observatory. This “Around Us” introduces a collection of “night walking places” where people can enjoy the sea and the city at a glance.
■ Lala land of Busan, Uam-dong Urban Forest
Uam-dong Urban Forest, located in Nam-gu, Busan, is a place where people can overlook the night view of the Yeongdo Sea, Busan Harbor Bridge, Dongbusan Container Terminal, and Yeongdo Bongnaesan Mountain. In the past, houses, and cemeteries coexisted, but in 2019, as part of the “city's public offering project to create a walkable Busan,” the walkway, including the deck, has become what it is today.
The moonlit road, a trail in the urban forest, is an excellent place to walk to avoid the heat. It is decorated with various themes, such as a heart photo zone and a healing promenade, so walking is not dull. Colorful neon signs and lights illuminate the night, making it ideal for night walks. If people climb the pavilion on one side of the promenade, people can see the night view at a glance. The workplace of the people on the sea, which does not turn off even when darkness settles, emits a bright light.
The highlight of this place is the full moon installation. The full moon installation is a sculpture made by reducing the size of the moon to one-third of 1.36 million. If people take a silhouette picture in front of a bright light, they can leave a shot of their life. It is also called Busan's “La La Land.”
To visit Uam-dong Urban Forest, get off at Beomil Station on Busan Line 1 and transfer to Nam-gu 5th Village Bus. People can get off at the “Hyundai Petroleum Station” stop and arrive in about five minutes on foot. There is no separate parking facility.
■ Busan Port Bridge at a Glance, Cheonghak Reservoir Observatory
Busan Tower, North Port, Busan International Finance Complex, Metro City, Marine City, and Oryukdo can be seen at the Cheonghak Reservoir Observatory in Youngdo, Busan. People can also enjoy the ever-changing lights of Busan Port Bridge and the pier.
The Cheonghak Reservoir Observatory will be in its current shape as part of the project to improve the walking environment of Bongrae Road in 2015. It allows for walks and views in the unused space of the reservoir. When people climb the observatory, people can see the statue of Jeolyoungma and the farmer's sculpture carrying the sweet potatoes. It symbolizes the characteristics of Jeolyeongdo (the old name of Yeongdo), which grew many horses and sweet potatoes.
The nearby lawn plaza has a jogging area, and various exercise equipment, such as aerial walking and rope pulling. Decks are installed, allowing visitors in wheelchairs to visit safely.
If people want to visit Cheonghak Reservoir Observatory, people can get off at Busan Line 1 Jungang Station and transfer to Yeongdo-gu 5th Village Bus. If you use your car, you can park near the empty lot of the Korea Coast Guard Region-South or Sea Special Attack Team.
■ A Panoramic View of the Night, Hwangryeong Mountain
Hwangryeong Mountain Beacon Fire Station is a historic place that existed before 1425. In the past, it received signals from Choryang and connected them to the Beacon Fire Station of Haeundae and Beomeosa Temple. In 1976, the shape of the beacon was restored and is now being used as a park.
It is also a night view spot that Busan citizens have loved for a long time. The deck is installed in various directions, so that people can enjoy the beautiful night view like a panorama. If you look to the west, you can see downtown Busan; if you look to the south, you can see Gwangan Bridge and Busan Port Bridge. In particular, people can observe Tsushima Island on a good weather day. People can observe more with a free telescope installed at the beacon station.
To visit Hwangryeong Mountain, people can get off at Subway Line 1 City Hall Station or Line 3 Mulmangol Station and walk up.
