One year ago, I joined the Hyowon Herald. I thought the first issue of 2021, my first participation in the Hyowon Herald, would go smoothly. However, we went through a rough voyage. It was challenging to prepare the publication with seven people, including five cub reporters, so the suspended publication of the next issue was unavoidable. I felt sorry, but we finished the first semester after expanding by five other cub reporters. In summer vacation, ten-odd reporters repeated numerous practices. At last, I thought that we had settled down after an unstable period.
The monthly newspaper was restructured to a twice-a-semester magazine in the second semester. Some reporters expressed anxiety about the decrease in publication number, but some welcomed this change because we could write the articles more freely. However, we ran into another difficulty. The huge system, Pusan National University (PNU) press, was collapsing. PNU Newspaper, the longest history in PNU press, suspended publication for a while. The three companies, PNU Newspaper, the Hyowon Herald and PUBS, had no interaction for quite a long time. Therefore, there is no way to know what was lacking or difficult for each other in the same building, Moonchang Hall.
Last winter, three press companies of PNU gathered to resolve this problematic situation. Now, we will plan the development of “PNU Integrated Media” under one name, Channel PNU. We faced our problems one by one throughout the cold winter, fixed them, and made a considerable effort. The members built up their capacity as reporters through basic coverage, video editing, and English writing. Furthermore, we had diverse experiences like understanding the news photographs, broadcasting speech, YouTube production, and online and offline communication tactics.
One cold wave swept through us. Nonetheless, we did not disperse and soon became tighter. We are ready for the reorganization preparation until spring comes by exchanging plenty of opinions and learning. I wonder what path Channel PNU will take in the future. I am looking forward to seeing how warm the spring will be.
